Artist Retreats, Workshops, and Day Passes at the Arches
“The Arches,” perched on “la Ripa,” or “the Edge,” of the cliffside of historic Tropea in southern Calabria, are believed to have been built during the Norman or Angevin periods in the 12th or the 13th century. In this old but light-filled space, creatives from beginners to established artists are given access to the Arches through the Artist Retreat, Leading a Workshop, or Day Pass programs, to create art and absorb a unique blend of sun, stone, earth, and sea.

TROPEArte was founded in 2023 with a vision of uniting art, history, and culture in Tropea, rooted in a spirit of humanity built on the town’s foundation as a refuge for migrants, and on its history of art, openness, and hospitality. After three years of running the TROPEArte Plein Air Festival, we launched the Accademia degli Archi in 2026, with the opening of the historic “Arches.” TROPEArte is administered by Studio Italiano Tropea.
